The Children and Youth Choir follow the choral tradition and teaching of the Royal School of Church Music. The RSCM is an ecumenical organization that promotes high standards for church music throughout the English-speaking world. The curriculum used is called Voice For Life. This comprehensive music and choral training program allows children to move at their own pace as they learn the fundamentals of singing, reading music, and leading liturgy. The RSCM Choirs leads music for worship once a month at the 10:30am Sunday service, and for other special occasions.
Our RSCM Choirs are divided in to:
Training Choir – the Training Choir is a bridge from Little Hummers to the RSCM Choirs. This choir is for children in kindergarten and first grade. They attend the first half-hour of the Jr. RSCM rehearsal: 5:15-5:45pm.
Jr. RSCM Choir – for young singers who are ready for music leadership in church, usually beginning in 2nd grade
Sr. RSCM Choir – for young singers who have been leading music in worship for several years and have achieved at least a light blue ribbon
The choristers participate in an annual Treble Festival and have the opportunity to attend a week-long RSCM course in North Carolina.
5:15 – 6:15pm Training Choir and Jr. RSCM Choir (Training Choir singers rehearse just a portion of this time)
6:15 – 7:15pm Sr. RSCM Choir
