The Music Ministry at St. Michael and All Angels’ is a welcoming and vibrant part of our church.  With two choirs providing music at our 10:30 service, there is variety within the music at our church, and a place for everyone.  We are a singing congregation, open to all types of music, and many of our members have participated in one of our choirs over the years.

Cecilia’s Singers: A truly unique church choir, Cecilia’s Singers are comprised of both singers and instrumentalists that prepare a variety of music selections for each service, ranging from choral pieces and traditional hymns to African American Spirituals and folk-like hymns. Musicians can expect to prepare hymns as a capella arrangements or in more contemporary arrangements involving instrumentalists. This unique approach to music making allows us to blend a variety of different styles that make up the beautiful tapestry of worship music and simultaneously bring out the best in each musician in the group. Rehearsals are currently suspended due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Remiel’s Ringers Bell Choir: A small group of enthusiastic ringers, the bell choir brings a special sparkle to worship when they perform each Sunday.  Made up of both veteran ringers and newbies alike, the bell choir is a wonderful place to feel part of a group where every person (and every bell) is needed!  The bell choir practices on Tuesday evenings from 5-6pm.

All of our choirs are thrilled to welcome new members—no expertise or experience required!  Come and help us sing/play/ring God’s praises!

SMAA’s Music Playlist: Music that Moves Your Heart and Soul

Music is an important part of who we are as a people and it has the ability move us heavenward. Even when apart from those we love music has a way of connecting us—you hear a song and are suddenly transported back to another moment with the person you have been missing.

To help keep us connected to one another and to share the music that animates our lives, we are launching shared playlists that you can use to discover new music and listen/pray with the St. Michael’s Family. Every other week we will highlight new songs added to the playlist and share a few words from the person who added the song.

To follow along with the playlist you can use either Spotify or Apple Music. Both services require an account but Spotify has a free tier that only requires your name and email address. Share your favorite pieces with the rest of the SMAA family by emailing Ayush music that moves your heart and soul. Please include a sentence or two about each of the pieces and why you chose them along with a photo of you that we can include in the Guardian.

I look forward to listening along with you and sharing the music that brings us to the feet of Jesus.
